Description
A Copper and Brass Cauldron. This is an 18th Century cooking vessel. An unusual survivor of its type, being constructed with a copper base a brass main body. topped with a bronze band. The carrying handle is made of iron and is attached to the body by two copper plates fastened with copper rivets along with hooks that sit in hand formed holes.
During the cleaning process that involved gently removing a large amount of soot from the outside of the vessel we discovered the beating marks made by the craftsman/woman. We decided to stop the cleaning at this stage so as to be able to enjoy this bit of history.
One of the pictures shows 21, 10″ split logs contained within the cauldron.
This vessel is not waterproof. It has some wear and tear near the base which prevents it from holding water.
